Contrary to popular belief, no they don’t! They are not born with special powers, gifts, or whatever – it’s just one of many myths about hypnosis. However, what it does take is training, skill and experience.

She was quite concerned and anxious because most of her friends have been filling a mind with silly stories about their perceived dangers of using hypnosis. They told her that it would never work, they told her that it was dangerous, the told her she would be walking around in a trance and that she would never wake up.

Many people have a picture in their mind of hypnosis that almost always includes someone swinging a pocket watch. The idea likely developed from Hollywood movies somewhere in the 40s or 50s.

Why is there so much fascination with the eyes in hypnosis? I don’t particularly have a “swinging watch” like one might see in Hollywood movies.

Hypnosis is not always portrayed very well in the media. I think the way in which it is presented often comes from a lack of understanding about what hypnosis really is.
