Contrary to popular belief, no they don’t! They are not born with special powers, gifts, or whatever – it’s just one of many myths about hypnosis. However, what it does take is training, skill and experience. When people say they are born with a gift, it is not true, it is something they have practiced and worked at week after week, month after month, and year after year. Competence only comes with experience and this can sometimes be mistaken for a ‘gift’ or ‘special power’. People often don’t see the work which goes into becoming successful at a particular skill. Do not let this confuse you though with the effectiveness of such a thing. Often the more competent the hypnotist, the more flexible he or she is at working with anyone. This could be to help a person become all they would like to be as a client; or, the recording of hypnotherapy CD’s.
