Is Hypnosis the Best Therapy?
Complimentary therapies such as hypnosis, reiki, and acupuncture can be used on their own or in addition to more traditional treatments to promote physical and mental well being. Each of these can be very effective in their practice, but I believe that hypnosis is by far the most efficient of them all.
Hypnosis, while it obviously affects people at a psychological level, also has an effect on a physiological level throughout the body, and on an emotional level. Some might even say hypnosis affects them on a spiritual level. Hypnosis doesn’t just treat one area of the issue, the physical or the emotional let’s say, but manages to treat it on all the levels simultaneously.
For instance, if you were to use acupuncture for smoking cessation they might put some kind of stud or needle in your ear. If you feel the need for a cigarette you put pressure on the stud, almost like a kinesthetic anchor. My guess is that this is done to bring on some kind of relaxation response by targeting the physical withdrawal symptom. But I’m not so sure whether it would affect the fact that you really, really feel like you need and want a cigarette. Those are mental and emotional experiences, so treating merely the physical aspect might not be enough. Hypnosis tackles all of these areas. It’s more than just a relaxation response.
I’m not stating that acupuncture isn’t a valuable therapy. I’m sure that this and other types of therapies do help you. I have experienced the benefits of aromatherapy before, which is a fantastic and wonderfully relaxing experience. In many ways an aromatherapy massage is a way of physically manipulating someone into hypnosis. It may be called aromatherapy by some, but really it’s just another tag for bringing about hypnosis. I have also experienced Reiki and that helped me go into a hypnotic state as well.
All these therapies overlap by promoting hypnosis. But hypnosis on its own tends to link and connect change in more areas – psychologically, physically, and emotionally – through the use of suggestion.
It’s more than just mere suggestion though. Our self hypnosis recordings use metaphor and analogy to facilitate understanding and acceptance of the suggestions. We use these processes to help people produce a positive shift while under hypnosis.
Ultimately, hypnotherapy is a mixture of different models that people are already using, but when we use them in hypnosis they are that much more powerful. That’s why I believe hypnosis is the most effective of all complimentary therapies.
