Success is an Attitude

There’s no doubt that success comes with a positive attitude, you just have to keep finding the positive in everything. In NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming) there’s a saying, “there’s no such thing as failure, only feedback”. In other words, whatever you get out of it is useful. That’s finding the positive.

For example, let’s say I am working at my one-on-one hypnotherapy with a client to help them stop smoking with hypnosis. After a few hypnosis sessions the client finds that he has not quit exactly, but has cut down to just one or two a day. As far as I’m concerned the implication for this is that the hypnosis is working, we just need to make some minor adjustments. I think it’s more important to see the positive forward motion rather than thinking, “Oh no, the hypnosis isn’t working. What am I going to do?”

Keeping the language and images we use in hypnosis positive will help us achieve success, but the same can be applied to everything in life. Finding the positive in every situation can easily become a habit, and a good one at that. I’d rather think about good things than negative, because generally we do tend to get what we think about in life (note: don’t forget that hypnosis can be used to help with positive thinking).

Consider this example that I watched play out with my daughter. A nurse is about to give her an injection and she says, “Is this your first shot?  Well, it’s going to hurt”. So my daughter then sits waiting to be hurt as her anxiety builds, ultimately causing her more pain as the needle goes into her skin. The nurse could have just as easily said something like, “Okay, I know this is your first time. It’s just going to be a slight discomfort for a very brief moment”. My daughter would have relaxed a bit and the pain would have been less. A simple positive spin using different language would have made a considerable improvement in the experience.

Essentially, success is about thinking of success. It’s not about thinking of what could happen or what might happen on the road to achieving our success. It’s about reminding ourselves of exactly what we want and sticking to that positive.

Keeping your thoughts and self-talk positive will help you achieve success in everyday life, just as the positive suggestions in my self hypnosis downloads help you achieve your goals.
