The human mind is absolutely fantastic! It is capable of so many wondrous and splendid things. We know that there is both a conscious and unconscious aspect to our minds, but the question often arises as to which part of the two is more powerful. Without any hesitation I definitely have to say I believe the ultimate power rests in the unconscious.

What I mean by the unconscious, or subconscious as some prefer to call it, is the part of your mind right now that is outside of your awareness. This is the part of your brain where you hold the core beliefs you have about yourself – what can do, what you can’t do, what you should do, what you shouldn’t do. It is where you determine what you can and can’t achieve in the world and how you think your life will end up. These thoughts are very real, very strong, and very deep. The unconscious mind holds these core beliefs and is the seat of our emotions and behaviours.

Just because the creative imagination rests in the unconscious and is the key to personal power, it does not mean that the conscious mind is not important. The conscious mind is the part of you that knows you are aware right now. We need this awareness to process our imagination. The unconscious and conscious are constantly working together in our daily lives. The reason this ties into hypnosis is that, as far as I am concerned, the hypnotic state is the state where the unconscious mind can be more readily or easily influenced. This is where we can create a shift in some of our core beliefs, feelings, and behaviours.

People have all sorts of ideas about hypnosis, many of which paint it as something magical or out of reach. But the truth about hypnosis is that it is a naturally occurring state we all experience at different times throughout the day.

For example, sometimes I’ll get to the end of the journey and I don’t remember driving the last hour of the trip. I did it without thinking. What I am really saying is that I did not do it consciously; it was an unconscious process – like a hypnotic state.

This gives you an idea the power of the unconscious mind to accomplish a great many things. Hypnosis is merely a state of high focus and concentration, one that is natural and automatic. Self hypnosis allows you to access the creative unconscious and, with the use of suggestion, create a shift in your feelings and behaviours.

This is the goal of my self hypnosis CDs and MP3 Downloads, to work with the power of the amazing unconscious to change negative or existing patterns of behaviour.
